Leon,
A friend of ours from the Indo-Canadian Chamber of Commerce asked us to find out something for him. Seems he witnessed an exchange between Michael Heaton and a guy from Chrysler a couple of months ago. The guy was very angry and claimed that Mr. Heaton was robbed by you and your pals regards an EFAP position and said many bad things about your union CAW.
Mr. Heaton replied that he should not blame the Union for what a couple of guys did and walked away.
So, we contacted your lackey and asked what it was about.
We found out that your procedure for union appointments is Union involvement first. If two people had same level of union involvement, seniority would break the tie.
Brown guy-Mr. Heaton. 18 years of union involvement, many different union positions, including on your Executive Board and very involved in local and community.
White guy-Sid. 3 years union involvement as alternate rep.
This is equal union involvement?
You heroes decided this is equal union involvement and used seniority to appoint Sid the white guy to the EFAP position.
This means even if people of colour have 6 times the qualifications, they still cannot advance in your union.
In your emails you told us that you are not carrying a vendetta against Mr. Heaton, but now what can you say? Now how can you deny?
Our friend told us that Mr. Heaton is well known for his involvement in EFAP circles, big involvement, well respected, a stand out.
All kinds of people, from business, politics and community are involved in this area and many know or heard of Mr. Heaton.
Our friend said if Chrysler wants to employ guys like you, no thanks for the Dodge Caravan he was going to purchase, he is buying a Sedona or maybe a Siena. You can tell your friends in Windsor what you did for them.
Guess what they are saying about unions? Racism, pure and simple. Nothing more-nothing less. Union racism.
This is one reason why people hate unions.
Someone should inform you that your union is begging the government for bailouts for auto companies. Many people are asking why should their tax dollars bail out racists?
Even though we have the campaign to buy Canadian made, we too are asking same question.
We also give this information to our own Organizing Department, let them use it to show our union is better for people of colour. We will inform also people we know from Labour Council in Brampton.
Our friend, Krishna Ramamurthy, knows all about you and your local. He made a blog for you and calls it www.noduesforduds.blogspot.com.
When he comes back from travelling we will tell him about this and we are eager to see how he will use this information.
Keep it up Leon. You are good for our union,
Sincerely,
ORV (Oskar, Ravi, Vijay)
